"We really enjoyed the Zubop gig with Juldeh at the GAIA Energy Centre in Cornwall yesterday. It was a real treat for my daughter's 19th birthday and the nanyeru music with Juldeh's singing brought tears to her eyes! A friend, long time jazz musician and artist, described it as 'the most melodic thing he had ever heard'. It felt like 10,000 years of deep culture were expressed with a simplicity and directness often lost to the western world. God bless Africa!" Brian Pilkington

This exciting project, supported by a grant from the Arts Council of England, reunited Zubop with two fine musicians from the Gambia Juldeh Camara and Njega, both of whom have recorded with us in the past.
Juldeh Camara is one of the leading nyanyeru (a one-stringed African fiddle, also known as the riti) players of West Africa, and one of the most prominent Fula musicians. A fine singer and a prolific composer, Juldeh's work has been very wide-ranging, from traditional Fula pieces through work with Ifang Bondi (one of West Africa's leading electric bands) all over Europe and in the USA, to recording with Positive Black Soul (Senegal's leading rap artists) and British r'n'b artists. We first met him in 1997 and he recorded a couple of tracks on our album Hiptodisiac.
It was through Juldeh that we met Njega, one of the emerging young generation of Gambian musicians now based here in the UK. Njega is an excellent djembe player and percussionist, and we enjoyed a fruitful collaboration with him on our latest album Tekezze in 2001.
And now we are reunited, bringing together all our different influences and styles to create an evening of music to savour. Traditional West African songs mingle with brand new pieces, jazz meets Township, reggae, a bit of rumba for good measure, the blues gets a look in, and through it all soars JuldehÕs beautiful voice. We had an inspring time, working and learning together and we premiered the material on a sell-out tour in Winter 2003 at these venues:
